The first week we learnt about the process of creating an etching. The first step is to sand the edges of the plate so they do not rip the paper, then the surface must also be sanded and polished before being cleaned and left to dry. Ink is then applied, for the sake of keeping it simple we started off with hard ground, the wax is then removed with an etching tool to create an image. Once the plate has been placed in acid and washed, the method of applying and removing ink is identical to dry point. I am pleased with the outcome of my first prints and the effect the chine colle in separating the foreground from the background. I would like to create something more expressive next time as I liked my initial etching but felt it was a little static.
